Trauma Therapy

"Trauma is a fact of life.  It does not, however, have to be a life sentence"
 - Peter Levine

Have you had experiences that were overwhelming and are continuing to affect you? Do you

  • tell yourself, “that was ages ago, just get over it”
  • find yourself thinking about it at odd times
  • feel constantly on edge, aware of everything around you
  • constantly think that there must be something wrong with you
  • believe that if people knew the “real you” they wouldn’t like you
  • Avoid going to therapy because you don’t want to have to rehash it

If this is you, I can help. I use both top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (somatic) approaches in the treatment of trauma. We start with helping you to be more grounded in the present moment, building a sense of safety and connection before addressing the trauma directly. You are always in charge of how much we focus on your trauma history and you never have to tell the details of what happened. I deeply understand the importance of being able to say no if there was a time that your “No” was not honored or respected.
